Deep Teeth Bleaching In Hemet & Temecula, CA

UNDERSTANDING WHY TEETH DARKEN AND HOW THEY WHITEN

Before you can appreciate information about Deep Bleaching, you need to understand about teeth whitening in general.

People have different colors of teeth and different lightness and darkness of their teeth; just like people have different colors of skin, hair color and eye color; and different lightness and darkness of skin, hair and eyes. Dark teeth are NOT just due to staining foods and drinks over time.

Over the years the NATURAL colors, deeper within the teeth, get darker. Also stains not only accumulate ON the surface of the teeth, but soak deeply INTO the teeth to further darken teeth. This is why at age 40 you’ll see that your teeth are darker than they were when you were 16, even if you do not consume things like coffee, tea or red wine. But you’ll see they’re even darker if you DO consume those staining foods and drinks.

Teeth whitening works by using peroxide gels that give off oxygen. This oxygen, if it enters the tooth structure properly, breaks long-chain stain molecules into smaller pieces. The significance is that long-chain molecules in teeth are DARK. Little short molecules are white.

THE THINGS THAT AFFECT WHITENING OF YOUR TEETH INCLUDE:

1) How permeable your tooth structure is to oxygen. Some people have teeth that absorb oxygen much faster than others.

2) How strong is the bleaching gel? Obviously, the stronger the bleaching gel is, the more oxygen is given off. But understand, if your teeth cannot absorb all that oxygen, very little will happen.

3) How long is the bleaching gel in contact with your teeth each time you put it on? Is the bleaching gel against your teeth for 30 minutes? 45 minutes? An hour? Six hours? The longer the bleaching gel is against the teeth, the DEEPER the oxygen can penetrate and break up the stain molecules.

4) If you perform bleaching at home with custom-made bleaching trays fabricated by your dentist, how well do the trays FIT. How well do they truly SEAL the bleaching gel in the trays and seal the saliva out of the trays. It’s obvious that you must seal the bleach in the trays, otherwise it will leak out and be gone. But it’s even MORE important to seal the saliva from getting under the trays into the bleach, because saliva will inactivate bleach gel very, very quickly. Most bleaching trays do NOT create a true SEAL at the edge, which allows the loss of bleach and allows saliva to rapidly get under the trays.

5) Do you suck the bleaching gel out of your trays each time you swallow? If you do, you’re also sucking saliva into and under the trays.

6) What is the nature of your tooth color? Certain colors are more difficult to bleach than others. Oxygen works best on organic stains. Luckily, natural color of teeth is organic and typical food stains are organic. But some people have inorganic stains like from having taken the antibiotic tetracycline (or any antibiotics in the tetracycline family) or fluorosis (too much fluoride). Inorganic stains are tough. Historically it is nearly impossible to whiten tetracycline stained teeth at all. Previously the only way to whiten tetracycline stained teeth was to wear bleaching trays at home EVERY DAY or EVERY NIGHT for a full 9 to 12 months, and even then the results were typically only so-so. Deep Bleaching is so effective that it is the ONLY technique ever developed that will even whiten tetracycline stained teeth significantly in a short time.

WHY DO SOME TEETH WHITENING SYSTEMS USE BLEACHING LIGHTS OR LASERS?

Studies have shown that bleaching lights and lasers do nothing to enhance teeth whitening. So WHY do you hear about them on television and in magazines? The answer is that the companies that MAKE these bleaching lights and lasers want everyone, dentists and patients alike, to THINK that these lights and lasers actually enhance whitening. But they do NOT.

In fact, let’s talk about what lights and lasers are SUPPOSED to do. They are supposed to cause oxygen to be given off by the bleaching gel faster and more thoroughly. They’re supposed to speed up the chemical reaction that results in the liberation of oxygen from the gel. Sounds good, doesn’t it? The problem is that it doesn’t work.

Some of the most respected researchers in dentistry, including CRA (Clinical Research Associates), have performed split-arch, proving that bleaching lights are of no benefit. A split-arch study is when you do one thing on the right side of a patient’s mouth and something different on their left side. Bleaching gels were placed on teeth on both right and left sides of these patient’s mouths. Bleaching lights were used only on one side, and the teeth on the other side of the mouth were shielded from the light. The result? No difference from right side to left side. It was the bleaching gel, and ONLY the bleaching gel that caused the whitening.

Within the professional dental community, this is now “old news”. At least 90% of all dentists are now aware that lights do virtually nothing. So WHY might your dentist still use these lights? The answer is that YOU, the public demand it. You see something on television about bleaching lights, or you read an article about bleaching lights, and then you go to your dentists to ask if they have that “magical” light.

What’s the dentist going to say to you? Is the dentist going to say no, that bleaching lights don’t work? Many – most in fact – would not believe the dentist. They’d simply think the dentist was saying no just because he or she does not have the bleaching light.

So if your dentist still uses bleaching lights, please don’t get angry about it. Your dentist is simply trying to please YOU. When used properly, the bleaching lights cause no harm. Your dentist probably feels that since you want the light and since there is no harm using the light, why not make you happy and use the light?

WHY ARE MOST TEETH WHITENING TECHNIQUES SO UNPREDICTABLE?

When you go to your dentist to have your teeth bleached in the dental office you’ll often find two things. 1) You’ll find that your teeth do not get all THAT white, and in many cases you’ll see nearly no color change at all, and if you do, much of that whiteness is gone by the next morning; and 2) Most dentists will then send you home with bleaching trays and bleaching gel.

If your teeth did not whiten much, the reason is that, like many, your teeth are not very permeable to oxygen. If they did whiten noticeably, but much of the whiteness was gone the next morning, it was because your teeth dehydrated during the bleaching procedure. Dehydration causes teeth to look MUCH lighter. Teeth dehydrate VERY quickly, but re-hydrate over several hours. So when you wake up and look in the mirror, your teeth have significantly re-hydrated and the whiteness is gone.

This has been a source of frustration to patients and dentists alike. Dentists have learned that to effect a genuine whitening, they need to send you home with bleaching trays and bleaching gel to use over several days or nights following the in-office bleaching session.

You may have noticed that after using bleaching trays, not only did your teeth not get as white as you’d like, but the portion of the teeth close to the gumline remained quite dark. This occurred because of two reasons. 1) The trays did not SEAL well and saliva got in under the trays, inactivating the bleach near the gumline; and 2) The enamel is thinner close to the gumline. Enamel is the lighter covering of the tooth. The structure under the enamel (called dentin) is much darker. So when the enamel is thinner there is more chance of the darker dentin showing through.

Was this the dentist’s fault for making trays that did not fit properly? No. ALL typical bleaching trays will leak. Deep Bleaching Trays actually seal at the edge of the teeth, sealing in the bleaching gel and sealing out the saliva. This is just one of the important reasons that Deep Bleaching is so effective.

HOW DO I USE DEEP BLEACHING TRAYS?

Deep Bleaching Trays are worn while you sleep. They are ultra-form-fitting bleaching trays. They fit so well that many people wake up in the morning, forgetting that the trays are in their mouths. Some even report having started eating breakfast before remembering the trays were in their mouths.

Many will tell their dentist that they do NOT want to wear bleaching trays when they sleep. The reason is that these people are thinking of regular bleaching trays. They think that the trays will be uncomfortable, preventing their ability to fall asleep. They also believe that they will suck yucky bleaching gel out of the trays quickly, also preventing them from falling asleep.

But Deep Bleaching Trays fit so well that you can barely feel them in your mouth, and they seal the bleaching gel within the tray. Patients typically have no problem whatsoever sleeping with Deep Bleaching Trays. This also means that you don’t have to fool around with wearing bleaching trays during your busy day.

The most important point is that during sleep, we do not salivate much at all, and therefore we don’t swallow much. For example, we all wake up in the morning with “morning breath”. The REASON for morning breath is that we’ve not been salivating or swallowing during sleep.

Since Deep Bleaching Trays seal the bleaching gel in and seal saliva out, if we do not salivate or swallow during sleep, this means that oxygen is given off virtually all night long, allowing oxygen to get deeper and deeper and deeper into our teeth and into the enamel crystals much more thoroughly. Therefore the “Deep” in Deep Bleaching.

HOW IS DEEP BLEACHING PERFORMED?

Deep Bleaching will involve an examination by Dr. Carr and very sophisticated, super-accurate impressions (molds) of your teeth, using a technique to provide incredible accuracy of the teeth and gumline. These molds will be used in the fabrication of your Deep Bleaching Trays.

You will then return to Dr. Carr's office for the conditioning visit. Using Deep Bleaching Trays, a very specific HYDROGEN peroxide bleaching gel will be placed on your teeth for 40 minutes. Do not expect to see much, if any whiteness from this procedure. Remember, permeability of your teeth to oxygen is critical to bleaching, and this procedure will begin to rejuvenate your teeth and enhance the tooth’s ability to absorb oxygen.

You will be given your at-home Deep Bleaching Kit and shown how to use it. You will sleep for 14 nights with the Deep Bleaching Trays, using a CARBAMIDE peroxide bleaching gel, selected specifically for use in Deep Bleaching Trays to release oxygen for several hours each night. By the end of the 14th night, you will already be amazed by the whiteness of your teeth. Patients with unusually difficult stains or tetracycline stains will bleach for additional nights.

At your final Deep Bleaching visit to the office, another high concentration HYDROGEN peroxide gel will be placed on your teeth for one hour. Typically you will see an additional blast of whiteness occur, resulting in a beautiful white, white smile.

WHAT ABOUT THE PAIN THAT I’VE HEARD ABOUT ASSOCIATED WITH BLEACHING?

Patients can now typically have their teeth permanently whitened with Deep Bleaching with no sensitivity at all, or in some cases only minimal sensitivity. Patients with ultra-sensitive teeth, who could have never bleached their teeth at all before, can now whiten their teeth.

HOW LONG WILL DEEP BLEACHING LAST?

Unlike other whitening techniques, the results of Deep Bleaching will last FOREVER! It’s PERMANENT! Part of the Deep Bleaching technique is an easy long-term maintenance protocol that you’ll simply perform at home.

As discussed above, darkening of teeth involves the NATURAL coloration of the deeper dentin, as well as the staining resulting from various foods and beverages.

Without periodic maintenance, those light colored molecules that were created during Deep Bleaching will start to join back together to form darker long-chain molecules. Your periodic maintenance (occasionally wearing your Deep Bleaching Trays for a night) will fully prevent this from occurring.

AFTER DEEP BLEACHING, WILL I NEED TO AVOID COFFEE, TEA AND RED WINE?

Absolutely not! You will not have to change your eating or drinking habits at all. When following the easy Deep Bleaching maintenance program, your teeth will stay the same color for a lifetime without any change in your eating and drinking habits.

IS BLEACHING SAFE?

Bleaching products have been clinically studied and safely used on millions of patients without harm to teeth or gums. Bleaching is considered entirely safe.

DOES IT MATTER HOW OLD I AM?

The perfect age to whiten teeth is about 14. The younger teeth are, the more permeable they are to oxygen and the more brilliantly they whiten. However, Deep Bleaching rejuvenates even older teeth back to their youthful ability to absorb oxygen and whiten incredibly well, even if you’re 90 years old.

HOW WHITE WILL MY TEETH GET?

Deep Bleaching whitens teeth dramatically. Teeth often lighten 16 shades or more. Though everyone is different, with proper Deep Bleaching technique, all teeth will have stunning results.

WILL MY TEETH LOOK TOO WHITE AND UNNATURAL?

No. Real teeth can’t look unnatural, they just look beautifully white. If you have seen people with ultra-white, fake-looking teeth, these were probably false teeth, teeth with porcelain crowns or veneers that may have been made too white and too opaque.

WILL MY CROWNS, VENEERS OR FILLINGS WHITEN TOO?

No. If you have fillings, veneers or crowns on your front teeth, you may need to replace some of them after bleaching.

IS DEEP BLEACHING MORE EXPENSIVE?

Yes it is. Deep Bleaching is the most expensive bleaching technique of any. Deep Bleaching involves more time and effort on your part and on the part of your dental office team. It is the most effective bleaching technique ever developed. Deep Bleaching is for people who want the whitest teeth possible, who want a permanent result, who want low to no sensitivity during bleaching and who want to continue consuming staining foods and beverages such as coffee, tea and red wine.
